Education

Research Scholarship

Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

Haifa, Israel

From 02/2015 - 09/2015 I was doing research at the Technion based on a DAAD scholarship I received for outstanding research in AI and ML. The research focus was:

  • hyperparameter optimization in CNNs

  • application of CNNs in industrial settings

At Technion, I was working at the Laboratory for CAD and Lifecycle engineering in the intersection of engineering and computer science.

PhD in Computer Science

University of Bremen

Bremen, Germany

From 2012 - 2016 I was a PhD student in the Intelligent Production Systems (IPS) group. My focus was on traditional features engineering methods and deep learning for different computer vision problems within industrial vision. The video shows a demo of the demonstration platform I built up as part of a Collaborative Research Center (CRC 747) based on a plenoptic camera system, that generates 2D and 3D information with one single shot.

M. Eng. in Electrical Engineering

University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg

Aschaffenburg, Germany

From 2010-2011 I was part of the Integrated Circuit Design Lab where I was working on massively parallel systems and real-time computer vision. The video shows the result of my master thesis, published at IEEE Intelligent Vehicle Symposium '11.

I implemented a cascaded SVM architecture on GPU that classifies the incoming feature vectors in a massively parallel way for pedestrian detection at smart intersections.

Dipl.-Ing. in Electrical Engineering

University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg

Aschaffenburg, Germany

From 2004-2009 I studied EE with a focus on automation and robotics. During that time I was part of the students@Bosch program of Robert Bosch GmbH and worked in different locations and on different topics including industrial vision, parallel systems, FEM simulation for DC drives.

Apprenticeship

Oswald Elektromotoren GmbH

Miltenberg, Germany

Before I began my academic career, I was working for 3 years in a fantastic small- and medium sized company called Oswald Elektromotoren close to the area where I was born. I learned the work of an electrician from bottom up and did super cool things like building electric drives and lab work on superconductivity.

Visit the homepage of the company, they do fantastic things and they are super innovative and forward thinking.
